Today was the third day of the pottery class and instead of completing my second pencil holder/pot, the teacher brought a decently sized pillar of clay and said, “this should make plenty of plates.” It was a lot of clay… and I can definitely say, that today was intense and laborious
From there got crackin’ to work, slicing the clay into even slabs to become plates - which really hurts if you have delicate skin! Since you cut the clay with a long piece of thick fishing wire and you have to make sure the wire is tight, not loose. When I was done slicing there were 21 slabs taking up a large portion of the classroom floor. After doing some slicing I had to sponge them a particular way, then flip the slab and repeat. So that was 42 sponging on the slabs! After that the slabs had to be cut into squares, THEN I’d be making the plate shape. He showed me once how to fold a square and 4hours and a half later I had made 16 plates. By the 16th plate I was ~~> x__X After getting my work looked at by the teacher I left for home. Anyway, here are some pics! Enjoy!
Approximate time: 5pm to 9:30pm = 4 hours and 30 mins
